MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

A POEM FOR THE HOLIDAY...

MISTLETOE

BY; WALTER DE LA MARE

Sitting under the mistletoe

(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe),

One last candle burning low,

All the sleepy dancers gone,

Just one candle burning on,

Shadows lurking everywhere:

Some one came, and kissed me there.

Tired I was; my head would go

Nodding under the mistletoe

(Pale-green, fairy mistletoe)

,No footsteps came, no voice, but only,

Just as I sat there, sleepy, lonely,

Stooped in the still and shadowy air

Lips unseen—and kissed me there.

What a sad year for all of us.

Some called him Harold, some called him Hal - but to me he was Butchie. From the time we grew up as kids on

Fletcher St. and right through High School at A.H.S. He was and always will be a true friend I will never forget.

I am so happy I got to see him at our 50th reunion. So many fond memories passed through my mind.

Five days before Christmas I got a card  at the bottom read  --  Love Butch and Maryann.

Every year I got a card from them. This card will be extra special and I'll keep it forever as I will keep his

memory in my heart.

God speed Butchie to those who are waiting for you-till we meet again.

God bless Maryann and your family.

LOOK UP IN THE SKY AND SEE THE NEW STAR AND KNOW THAT HE IS NOW WATCHING OVER US..

Beautiful words Marilyn.  And, you can be sure Hal is watching us from above with that twinkle in his eye.

I do not know if I am posting this in the right place,  Even though I was in charge of the implication of the computers in my district, I am so far behind the envelope, I hope this reaches my classmates.

Butch was an integral part of the MHS football team.  Like many of us, he was not a super star, but gave his best day after day.  I beleive he played tight end and defensive end.

His powder blue 55 (maybe 56) ford was a stable of the AHS parking lot.

I did not see much of Hal over the years but we did do a Peter, Paul, and Mary concert togethger.

When we (my wife and I) came to the 50th reunion, doug and his wife made us feel so welcome.  Having not attendended many reunions,  I felt a little left out.  Doug made sure we were part of what was going on.

My most heartfelt thoughts go to both families at this time.

My sincere condolences go out to Doug and Hal's families. The losses to our class remind me to live every day to the fullest.

I thought I would share my lasting memory of Doug. Does anyone remember the bleacher-like platform we all sat on during graduation? Well, as those in my row rose to begin the walk down the steps to get to the stage, Doug, with his height prevented me from performing a face-plant on stage. While going down the steps, I lost my balance, caught a shoe....whatever it was.....and started to fall but landed against Doug's back. Thank heaven he didn't move out of the way and let me go. He saved the day for me. Though only a few classmates noticed it, my mom said I had a smirk on my face as I walked across the stage to accept my diploma. I was feeling equally embarrassed, foolish, and grateful. I told him then and repeat it here now....Thanks, Doug, for being there for me!

Guess we were lucky we moved from NH when we did.  The snow was unbelieveable!  However, Georgia had it's share of cold weather a few scattered snow squalls and a horrid ice storm where we lost power for 4 days and the temps got down to 34 inside the house. My African Violets didn't survive well but we did and have decided a generator is a good idea for next Winter.

04/25/15 04:12 PM #159

Donna DuFault (Proctor)

Hi Ginny! Well, I survived it, but spring is sure taking it's time. We're still having below normal temps. I did get out hiking last weekend, but it's mud season, so not as much fun. I guess I was luckier than Jackie. I lost power during the Thanksgiving storm, but the rest of the winter went smoothly....if you can call 10 feet of snow smooth. How's the weather in Iowa? What have you been up to?

My son got married in San Diego on March 14, so I had a wonderful eight days in Mission Beach. Talk about perfect weather! The resort we stayed at was surrounded on three sides by Mission Bay and was a block from Mission Beach......mid 70's to low 80's every day. I hadn't taken a vacation in a while, so it was a real treat. And then it snowed two days after I got back!
