David Allen Machen, 47, died yesterday (6/30/91) at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital in Hanover, NH after a long illness. 

He was born in Providence, RI on May 18, 1944, the son of Charles "Newt" and Marjorie (Goddard) Machen.  He graduated from Andover (Mass) High School in 1963.

After graduation, he trained for the Olympics and was an alternate on the Olympic wrestling team.

Mr. Machen was a tractor-trailer driver, working for the AVCO Corp of Lowell, Mass. for 11 years and later for the Bard Corp., a division of U.S. Catheter Instruments in Billerica, Mass.  He was a manager of a health club in Billerica for many years and was part owner of Doyle's Gas Station in Chelsea for a year.

He was married to Candis Hansen.

He had lived in Hampton Beach, NH, Lowell and in Chelsea since 1987.  He was amember of the Andover Baptist Church and the YMCA of Lowell.

He leaves a daughter, Kristen Machen of Chelsea, his father of Roswell, NM, his brother, William of San Jose, Calif., and a cousin.

At Mr. Machen's request, there will be no services.  The Broadway & Cilley Funeral Home of Chelsea is in charge of the arrangements.
